Elvis has left the building!!! Well he was stolen
actually, for more information see below

A follow on story about our missing Elvis (see below re:
theft)
Elvis found in Twickenham by a team of forensic
experts Whitton, near Twickenham, January 2010. A passenger on a train spots a hand sticking out of a bush,
the police are alerted, they check with the train driver he confirms that no one was hit by the train. So foul play is suspected, the area is considered
a crime scene & cordoned off, forensics are called in, power is shut to the railway line, 4 police cars arrive, trains
stop running, lots of experts in the field of crime are called in to recover the body and look for clues. Their worst fears turn to laughter as a life size
statue of Elvis Presley is recovered from the bushes. This really happened The
story behind the event We are Peter & Evelyne, we run The Winning Post R&R Club in Whitton,
Twickenham. (Which is about 1 mile from Twickenham stadium) info at www.ukrockandroll.com About two years ago be purchased a life size statue of Elvis*
on EBay, as The winning post is located on the A316 (a main arterial route into London) we put ‘Elvis’ on the
flat roof above the venue as a promotional idea. It became a local landmark with many comments (and increased business) Last September, (during the weekend of a big Saturday
Rugby match) Elvis was stolen from the roof, although the theft was not reported to the police it was featured in Specialist
R&R magazines/Websites.
Obviously we
do not know what happened between the theft and the dramatic recovery of the statue, but there is a footbridge over the railway
line where it was found so it could have been dumped from the Bridge into bushes Whatever happened we think it is a great story. And
he was recovered on (or near) what would have been Elvis’s 75th Birthday! *The Elvis statue bas a prop in the film starring Joaquin
Phoenix called “Buffalo Soldiers” In this “M*A*S*H”-like military satire set on
a U.S. Army base in Germany, Joaquin Phoenix shoots off the head of an Elvis statue. So our Elvis has had his head shot off, stood on a roof for
two years, been stolen, dumped in bushes, stopped the trains, recovered by a crime squad and is now safely back in our West
Sussex home.
Elvis HAS Left The Building A
Rock’n’Roll legend has been stolen from one of London’s leading R&R clubs. The
Winning Post at Twickenham is the home to R&R in the SW London area; it is situated on the 316 (Northbound) which is a
main arterial rout into London. To promote the club the organisers purchased a full size statue
of Elvis, complete with Guitar in hand and placed him on the flat roof above the venue, where he became a local landmark and
a very popular addition with the Regulars at The Winning Post R&R Club. The club
is run by Evelyne ‘The Swiss Miss’ with DJ Peter Phillips providing the music & the R&R video show with
50s greats on two large screens. They got the Elvis statue on Ebay where it had been used as a prop in
a Joaquin Phoenix film where the plot required the head of the Elvis statue to be shot off!! The
statue made it’s opening appearance at The Winning Post in 2007 where it was guest of honour on one of the regular Tuesday
club nights, after which it took residence on the roof behind a low parapet wall. Every week Evelyne &
Peter would arrive at their R&R Club and would be greeted with the sight of their ‘Elvis’, which was clearly
visible from the A316, & then about 4 weeks ago Elvis had left the building!! The Winning post is about 1 mile from Twickenham
stadium, and the Statue was on the roof for the First Friday, monthly band night at The Winning Post, but gone 4 days later
when Evelyne & Peter arrived to open their regular Tuesday night club, Evelyne was shocked to see her ‘Elvis’
was missing and initially thought the venue management must have moved it, but alas no it had been stolen. There
had been a big Rugby match on over the weekend and the chief suspects for this heinous crime is a group of excitable Rugby
fans, who may have gained access to the roof then used the rope securing Elvis to lower it down. Peter
& Evelyne was going to report it to the police, but decided not to as a serious investigation into the disappearance of
Elvis would not be paramount on the local constabularies list of priorities. Although it may amuse the
investigating officer, and if found the culprits would hopefully get some real jailhouse rock!!!
